Menopause

Menopause is when a women stops having periods. Menopause means “the last menstrual period” and around 400,000 women in Scotland are of menopausal age. While it is a natural and inevitable part of the life course, the timing and symptoms are different for everyone. It usually happens between age 45 and 55, but can start earlier for some women.

Changes in your hormones during menopause can impact your mental health as well as your physical health. Feelings of anxiety, stress and even depression may be experienced.

Types of treatment:

There are lots of information and support available to help women through the menopause, and the variety of symptoms associated with this. Leading a healthy lifestyle can help with menopausal symptoms including following a healthy diet, regular physical activity reducing stress and following healthy sleep habits.
