We’re so lucky to live in a place with such unique scenery on our doorstep. Getting outside for a walk is one of the simplest ways to become more active, and it can do wonders for our physical and mental wellbeing. A walk can help lift our mood, boost our energy, reduce stress, and improve fitness — and the best part is, you can start small and go at a pace that feels right for you.
If you’re looking for some inspiration for walking routes, check out our Peerie Wanders. These leaflets have been designed by Healthy Shetland in collaboration with Shetland Islands Council to help people be more active through walking. In March 2025, these booklets were revamped and included input from RSPB Shetland, Shetland Amenity Trust, NatureScot and Ability Shetland.
