Cervical screening, also known as a cervical smear test, is a free screening test available on the NHS for anyone with a cervix aged 25 – 64 years old.

Cervical smear tests are a vital part of preventing cervical cancer and protecting your health and wellbeing. And should continue even if you have had an HPV vaccine.
If there are reasons that it is difficult for you to attend an appointment to have a smear test, please let your Practice Nurse know and they will help.
Some things that people say they find helpful include being able to take someone else along to support them through their appointment, being able to speak to the Nurses that do the screening about what will happen during the test and being able to ask them questions. You can book an appointment to speak about any concerns you may have through your local health centre. It is possible for us to arrange an appointment for you at another GP Practice in Shetland should you wish, please speak to your own practice to request this.
