Periods (Menstruation)

Periods are a normal part of the menstrual cycle. For most women, a periods happens around every 28 days, but it is common for periods to occur from 21 to 35 days. So simply speaking, a female can expect a period roughly around once per month. Everyone experiences periods differently, however it is important to know what isn’t “normal”. Periods shouldn’t stop you doing normal activities. If you have concerns, pain or discomfort during your period you do not have to suffer, help is available.

Periods start during puberty, the average age for puberty to start in girls is 11, but it can be earlier or later. Periods usually start at the age of around 12, but this can also be earlier or later, they may not be regular to begin with, but by the age of 16-18 periods should be regular each month.
