World Mental Health Day

The theme to this year’s World Mental Health Day is “it’s time to prioritise mental health in the workplace”. We know that work can be a stressful environment, so it’s important we take time in our workplace to look after ourselves and our colleagues as it’s everyone’s responsibility to champion mental health in the workplace.

NHS Shetland Health Improvement particularly want to shine a light on burnout and make sure employers and employees can see the signs and address burnout before it escalates. In our fast-paced world, more employees are experiencing chronic stress that leads to burnout. By addressing workplace burnout on this World Mental Health Day, we can create a more productive, engaged, and fulfilled workforce. A mentally healthy workplace is a thriving workplace.

We want to share a couple of tips that you could try introduce into your workplace to encourage a healthier environment. The mental health foundation are encouraging workplaces to have a “tea and talk” to have conversations around mental health. You can download the pack from their website and host your own tea and talk in your team.

We have also created “deskercise” – a bitesize exercise 5 or 10 minute routine that you can do in your workplace, using things found in the office. Being active releases our feel good hormones and can help us feel more alert and concentrate better at work. You can download deskercise on our website – https://www.healthyshetland.com/deskercise

Can you make time in your team to prioritise mental health? Why not try one of the activities we’ve suggested – host a tea and talk, make time to deskercise or fill your stress bucket!
