Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a free two day, in-person course that provides attendees with practical skills to identify and support individuals who may be at risk of suicide.
Who is this for?
Anyone! We know that anyone can be at risk of suicide, therefore anyone from any walk of life can do the training. Participants must be 16 or over.
This is an in-depth course that talks directly about suicide, and this can be upsetting or triggering. If you would like to chat about the course first, please contact laura.russell4@nhs.scot or shet.healthyshetland@nhs.scot.
What you’ll learn:
- Recognise when someone may be thinking about suicide
- Understand how personal and community attitudes affect help-seeking
- Provide a skilled intervention and develop a safety plan
- Build confidence and capacity to offer suicide first aid
