Losing weight safely and realistically, in a way that suits our lifestyles, is the best approach.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measure used to ensure we get support in the appropriate service, we can calculate our BMI using this BMI calculator. Some services can be accessed directly via self-referral and others require a referral from our GP or health professional.

Local Support

If your BMI is between 25 – under 35 you can contact the Health Improvement Department on (01595) 807494 or email: info@healthyshetland.com to arrange an appointment. Please include your name, contact details and registered Health Centre when you get in touch.

If your BMI is 35 or above, you can contact your Health Centre to arrange a referral to the Dietetics Department.

Self-Management

The 12 week weight management programme has been designed for adults with a BMI of 25 or above who want to eat well and feel well towards a healthy weight. You shouldn’t follow this programme if you are under 18 years of age or pregnant.
