S3 Health Checks

All S3 pupils will be offered an optional health check up from a Health Improvement Practitioner.

A health check lasts around 20 minutes and takes place at your school. During the health check you will be asked some questions about your health and your lifestyle.

The topics covered by the health checks include:

  • Medications
  • Immunisations
  • Height & Weight
  • Social Factors
  • Smoking
  • Alcohol
  • Drugs
  • Mental Health
  • Sexual Health
  • Oral Health
  • Diet
  • Physical Activity
  • Personal Safety

You do not have to answer any questions which make you feel uncomfortable. If you do not want your height and weight taken you don't have to do this either.

The Health Improvement Practitioner will give you advice about your health and wellbeing. You can also ask them questions about any areas of your health which you are worried about. Sometimes we might need to make a referral to another service so you can get help from a specialist.

Staff will always respect your right to confidentiality, including if you are under 16 years old. However if we are made aware of circumstances in which a young person under 16 may be in danger from themselves or others we are duty bound to report this to the social work department and/or the police. You would be told if we needed to do this.
