Mental Health



2 day course - attendance at both days of training is necessary. This training is in high demand, so please get in contact soon if you would like to book a place on the dates listed below.

This training aims to help people become more ready, willing and able to intervene with someone who is at immediate risk of suicide.

Participants will learn to:

  • recognise invitations to help
  • reach out and offer support
  • review the risk of suicide
  • apply a suicide intervention model
  • link people with community resources

Mental Health For Managers

2 day course - attendance at both days of this course is necessary. This course is open for anyone to attend.

The training was developed by the Scottish Centre for Healthy Working Lives in partnership with the Scottish Development Centre for Mental Health.

It is designed to encourage good practice in promoting positive mental health and well-being.

Learning Objectives

The course is designed to:

  • Give employers and line managers a broad understanding of mental health
  • Identify the key factors that contribute to a mentally healthy workplace
  • Increase awareness of mental health issues in the workplace
  • Raise awareness of the economic impact of positive mental health in the workplace
  • Improve managers' skills and confidence in dealing with mental health and well-being in the workplace
  • Ensure that managers are aware of their legislative responsibilities in relation to health and well-being

Self Harm Awareness Training

1 day course.

Topics covered include:

  • What is self harm?
  • Definition and prevalence
  • How do people self harm?
  • How do we feel?
  • Why do people self harm
  • Responding to self harm
  • What do we need?

Self Harm Awareness training can also be arranged as a shorter awareness session for staff groups (usually 2 hours) using some of the topic areas above.

Stress Less Session

2 hour session or 2 x 1 hour sessions

Available on request and delivered in your work area or arranged in alternative venue whatever suits your needs.  Sessions are best restricted to a maximum of 12 participants at a time.

This short session was developed by Healthy Working Lives.  It helps to raise awareness of the stress process and why it is important to manage it.  It finishes with some basic techniques for individual stress management.

Learning Objectives:

  • List and demonstrate an understanding of the 4 stages of the pressure/release cycle
  • Explain the link between pressure and performance at work
  • Give examples of the physical, psychological and behavioural signs and symptoms of stress
  • List the 6 key areas of stress at work as identified by the Health and Safety Executive and apply to the work setting
  • Describe steps an individual can take to prevent and/or deal with stress

Sexual Health and Relationships


Half day training course

Designed to assist people to identify and understand sexual behavior in children and young people.

Topics covered include:

  • Chidren, young people, sexual behaviours, safeguarding and the law
  • Thinking about values and their impact on decision making
  • Making decisions
  • How to use the online tool
  • Planning how to integrate the tool into daily practice

Sexual Health and Relationships Education

This training may be of interest to anyone that works directly with young people.

This is an opportunity to receive multi-agency training, which will familiarise participants with 'SHARE' values and aims, as well as giving participants the opportunity to experience some of the activities from the teaching manual. All participants will receive a copy of the educational resource on completion of the training.

Learning outcomes from the training include:

  • Increase knowledge of the evidence base underpinning the SHARE programme
  • Clarify the SHARE values, rights and responsibilites
  • Raise awareness around what we know about young people, sex and relationships
  • Increase participants confidence in delivery of sexual health messages
  • Have the opportunity to take part in, and practice delivering, SHARE sessions as pairs, small groups and in plenary sessions
